Low density lipoprotein receptor
LDLR (Low-Density Lipoprotein Receptor) from a human cDNA library. The protein localizes to the plasma membrane where it binds to and mediates transport of LDL into the cell by clathrin-mediated endocytosis. LDL is a lipoprotein that transports macromolecules such as cholesterol and triglycerides from the liver to peripheral tissues via the blood stream. High blood LDL levels may cause serious diseases such as arteriosclerosis.
